A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Meteorology at NC State satisfies the requirements for employment as a meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS) and American Meteorological Society (AMS). Many of our graduates have advanced in their career paths and obtained jobs in atmospheric science or environmental science in the government and private sectors.
Freshman Students
Prospective high school students looking to fulfill passions for meteorology by obtaining a degree should have a solid background of knowledge in math and science. In order to understand the behavior of Earth's atmosphere, meteorology majors at NC State will develop a more complete understanding of chemistry, math, and physics during the first two years and then study dynamic and synoptic meteorology during the junior and senior years.
