Student Organizations
American Meteorological Society (AMS):
The Student Chapter of AMS at NC State is devoted to exploring career and research opportunities within atmospheric sciences and other disciplines that incorporate meteorology for the benefit of society. Monthly meetings involve guest speakers from organizations such as the National Weather Service, broadcast media, and private sector corporations.
Research, Forecasting & Discussion (RFD):
The RFD club incorporates forecasting challenges and discussions pertaining to local, regional, and national significant weather events and encourages collaboration in various forecasting competitions both within the NCSU meteorology program and nationally through WxChallenge.
Soundings:
The Soundings club at NC State educates students on how sounding data is obtained by safely preparing and launching radiosondes launched from the roof of Jordan Hall. Launches are coordinated either for academic purposes or to assist graduate research interests at NC State.
NCSU Weather:
NCSU Weather allows students to explore broadcast meteorology by creating and producing daily weather forecast videos. Students learn about using common technologies used by broadcast media, including recording against a green screen.
